Unforgettable Family Fun: Your Ultimate Guide to 30A’s Seaside and Blue Mountain Beach Vacation
Our recent family beach vacation to the breathtaking 30A Seaside area was so absolutely enchanting that we’ve already booked our return trip for this summer! From boutique shopping to diverse restaurants and an abundance of engaging activities, this stretch of Florida’s Emerald Coast offers everything a family could wish for in a getaway.

Having grown up just ten minutes from the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean, its rhythmic waves will always hold a special place in my heart. However, since my first visit to my sister-in-law in Pensacola, I’ve been utterly captivated by the distinct charm of Florida’s Panhandle beaches. There’s an undeniable serenity and a mesmerizing clarity to the water along the Emerald Coast that has truly won me over. The stunning turquoise hues and soft, sugar-white sands create a picturesque setting unlike any other, making it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.
Today, I’m thrilled to share a glimpse into our incredible family beach vacation from last summer, which took us to the vibrant communities of 30A, specifically focusing on the delightful Seaside and the tranquil Blue Mountain Beach area!

Last summer, our family embarked on a memorable road trip to the picturesque northwest region of Florida, eager to discover new beaches we had yet to explore. Scenic 30-A, officially known as County Road 30A, is a charming 24-mile stretch that weaves through a collection of quaint coastal communities. Driving along this scenic route feels like stepping into a small-town paradise, an experience truly unique and enchanting. Each community along 30A boasts its own distinct character, from vibrant and bustling to serene and secluded.
Seaside is arguably the most recognized and popular town within this cluster, often drawing the largest crowds with its iconic architecture, bustling shops, lively streets, and diverse restaurants. While Seaside offers a lively atmosphere, we opted for a slightly quieter retreat. Our family chose to stay in Blue Mountain Beach, located just a short drive north – approximately seven minutes, to be precise. This proved to be the perfect choice, as Blue Mountain Beach offered an ideal blend of isolation and tranquility, exactly what we sought for our family getaway. Despite its peaceful ambiance, Blue Mountain Beach (and its equally charming neighboring towns) is perfectly situated, providing easy access to all the attractions stretching from the vibrant heart of Seaside all the way to the lively destination of Destin. This convenient location allows visitors to experience the best of both worlds: quiet relaxation and exciting exploration.
Below are some cherished photos from our wonderful week in the area last summer. We loved it so much that we are joyfully returning to the very same spot in less than a month!
Discovering Seaside: A Coastal Gem on 30A

Our time exploring Seaside was filled with immense joy and discovery. Given our close proximity, we were fortunate enough to visit this enchanting town multiple times throughout our week-long stay. Seaside is renowned for its exceptional walkability; once you’ve parked your car, the entire town invites you to explore on foot, leisurely strolling through its charming streets. For those staying a bit further afield, bicycling is a highly popular and convenient option, with numerous bike rentals available to help you navigate the scenic paths and discover hidden gems.
This town is truly adorable, boasting an aesthetic that charmed us instantly, especially its delightful array of shops. These aren’t just ordinary stores; they offer truly cute and unique items, perfect for finding a special souvenir or simply enjoying a browse. The vibrant town center serves as the main hub of activity, featuring a beautiful amphitheater that often hosts live music and events, creating a lively atmosphere. Adjacent to this, a bustling strip of gourmet food trucks and vintage Airstreams lines the street, offering an incredible variety of culinary delights. While it was certainly a bit crowded for my preference, especially when navigating with several small children in tow, the lively buzz contributes to Seaside’s undeniable charm. It’s not quite the leisurely stroll one might enjoy solo, but the vibrant energy and diverse offerings make it a must-visit destination.

Fun Fact about Seaside: Its picture-perfect, idyllic community served as the primary filming location for the critically acclaimed movie “The Truman Show” starring Jim Carrey. Do you remember seeing its iconic pastel houses and town square on screen?

We absolutely loved browsing and shopping at some of Seaside’s most adorable and unique boutiques:
- Duckies Shop of Fun: A whimsical store perfect for children and adults alike, offering playful toys and gifts.
- Per spi cas ity: An iconic open-air market known for its stylish apparel, accessories, and home goods.
- The Seaside Style: The go-to spot for classic Seaside apparel, souvenirs, and local artisan products.
- The Art of Simple: Offering beautifully curated home decor, gifts, and lifestyle items that embody a minimalist coastal aesthetic.
- Mercantile: A charming general store with a selection of local treats, essentials, and unique finds.

There is truly so much to explore in this meticulously planned little town. Beyond the shops and restaurants, Seaside offers several iconic landmarks that contribute to its unique character. The Seaside Neighborhood School, with its beautiful garden and courtyard (pictured above), stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to education and green spaces. The picturesque Post Office, a beloved photo opportunity, and the serene Chapel are central to the town’s identity. Additionally, a visit to Ruskin Place (pictured below) is a must. This charming square, often featuring unique artisan markets and public art installations, is surrounded by stunning architecture and offers a peaceful oasis for reflection or a quiet chat.

Delectable Dining Experiences on 30A

(From Bud and Alley’s: a delightful array of Scrambled Eggs & Cherrywood Bacon Sandwich, Poached Eggs & Lentils, Belgium Waffle with Whipped Ricotta, and Sweet Potato Pancakes)
Our culinary adventures in Seaside led us to two truly memorable restaurants:
- Lunch at The Great Southern Cafe: This spot is a must-visit for its vibrant atmosphere and outstanding Southern-inspired cuisine. I highly recommend their Mojitos – they were perfectly crafted and incredibly refreshing. For my meal, I savored the Mediterranean Salad, a fresh and flavorful choice. Honestly, every dish that came to our table was exceptionally good, showcasing local ingredients and expert preparation.
- Brunch at Bud and Alley’s: As seen in the mouth-watering photos above and below, Bud and Alley’s delivered an unforgettable brunch experience. Overlooking the Gulf, the restaurant offers stunning views alongside its delicious menu. We indulged in everything from a hearty Scrambled Eggs & Cherrywood Bacon Sandwich to elegant Poached Eggs & Lentils, a fluffy Belgium Waffle with whipped ricotta, and unique Sweet Potato Pancakes. Each dish was a testament to their commitment to quality and flavor, making for a truly special family meal.

Just a few minutes’ drive from Seaside, we discovered an absolutely AWESOME family and friend hangout spot called The Hub. This unique destination is literally designed like a huge, welcoming backyard, offering an incredible variety of seating options – from cozy lounge areas to picnic tables. The Hub is a true entertainment epicenter, featuring a massive outdoor screen for movie nights (we caught a Star Wars film during our visit!), live music performances, and an array of food stands and bars. It’s the perfect place to grab some dinner, enjoy the fresh air, and soak in the lively community atmosphere. Whether you’re with a large group of friends or your entire family, The Hub provides endless fun and relaxation for everyone.

We only managed to keep the little ones engaged for so long before… they eventually conked out from all the excitement! It’s a sign of a truly fun-filled day when even the most energetic little explorers are ready for a peaceful rest.

Blue Mountain Beach: Our Serene Slice of Paradise

Now, let me transport you back to my cherished little slice of paradise: Blue Mountain Beach. You truly have no idea how utterly tranquil and rejuvenating this place is. Our days here were a blissful blend of relaxation and activity. We spent countless hours splashing in the pool, gliding across the serene waters in kayaks, building sandcastles and soaking up the sun on the pristine beach, delving into captivating books, engaging in friendly board game competitions, savoring delicious barbecues, and exploring the hidden gems of the surrounding area. One particular discovery that still makes my mouth water is the nearby Blue Mountain Creamery – I’ve been dreaming about their ice cream ever since we left!
Our accommodation was situated on the edge of Big Redfish Lake, a truly unique natural wonder. This area is home to rare coastal dune lakes, which are freshwater lakes found in close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, separated only by a narrow sand dune. They periodically breach the dune, allowing fresh and saltwater to mix – a fascinating natural phenomenon that creates a diverse ecosystem. I simply adore nature, and witnessing this geological marvel firsthand was an incredible experience.
Our daily commute to the beach was an adventure in itself, courtesy of a comfortable pontoon boat. Driven by the same friendly and hospitable captain and crew each day, the short ride across the lake to the Gulf was always a highlight.

Alternatively, for those seeking a bit more adventure, kayaking was another fantastic option to reach the beach, offering a more intimate connection with the serene waters of the lake.

The view as we pulled up to the beach after our short, scenic boat ride was consistently breathtaking. The transition from the calm lake to the expansive Gulf, with its dazzling emerald waters and soft white sands, was always a moment of pure bliss.

One of our favorite beach activities was embarking on a crab hunt as the sun began to set. It’s always exciting to see what tiny creatures emerge on the shoreline!

And yes, I proudly learned how to kayak during this trip! Paddling across the smooth waters, with the sun on my skin and the gentle rhythm of the waves, was a truly empowering and peaceful experience.

My sister-in-law Jamie and I especially enjoyed our morning walks. How could you not, when surrounded by such an abundance of natural beauty? The fresh air, the sounds of nature, and the stunning scenery made every stroll a restorative experience.

If it isn’t abundantly clear from these photos and descriptions, we truly had an absolutely awesome time, cherishing every moment spent with our family. We absolutely cannot wait to do it all again very soon!
I hope you thoroughly enjoyed our personal photo album and travelogue from our unforgettable trip to 30A, Seaside, and Blue Mountain Beach. May it inspire your next family adventure to this incredible part of Florida!
