Discovering Savannah, Georgia: An Unforgettable Spring Family Adventure Guide

A few weeks ago, my family and I embarked on a delightful and somewhat spontaneous journey to Savannah, Georgia, just in time for the vibrant Easter weekend. My husband and I had previously experienced the enchanting charm of Savannah a few years prior and had always dreamt of returning, this time with our children in tow. Savannah truly offers something for everyone in our family: my oldest son, a budding history enthusiast, found endless fascination in its past; my daughter, much like myself, was captivated by the city’s picturesque scenery; and our youngest, an energetic 18-month-old, relished the ample space to explore and run freely. It proved to be the quintessential family getaway, and experiencing Savannah during the blossoming beauty of spring was an absolute treat we will cherish forever.

Where We Stayed: Family-Friendly Comfort at Embassy Suites
For our accommodation, we chose the Embassy Suites, acting on a thoughtful recommendation from a friend. As a growing family of five, we’ve come to realize that a standard hotel room simply no longer suffices, especially with an active toddler requiring plenty of space to roam and nap without disturbing everyone else. We craved room to breathe, and Embassy Suites delivered spectacularly.
Our stay included two connecting rooms, providing the perfect solution for our family’s needs. One room functioned as a traditional hotel room, featuring two comfortable queen beds and an attached private bathroom. The adjacent room was a spacious living area, complete with a convenient pullout sofa, its own large television – perfect for the kids to wind down with after a day of adventures – a functional desk area, and a kitchenette setup including a sink, fridge, and microwave. This second room also offered direct access to the bathroom, making evening routines much smoother. This two-room suite configuration was, without a doubt, one of the best decisions we made for our trip; it offered ample space, privacy, and convenience, making our stay incredibly comfortable and stress-free. I wholeheartedly recommend Embassy Suites for any family in need of generous space during their travels to Savannah.
Beyond our fantastic suite, the hotel itself impressed us with its expansive, clean, and welcoming environment. The lobby area was vast and elegantly designed, offering numerous comfortable seating arrangements where guests could relax and socialize. However, the undisputed highlight for both our children and us adults was the magnificent complimentary breakfast spread served every single morning. It was far more than a simple continental breakfast; it was a lavish hot buffet featuring everything imaginable. We indulged in fluffy scrambled eggs, hearty oatmeal, golden pancakes, a variety of savory meats, and classic biscuits with gravy. For those with a lighter appetite, there were fresh yogurts, an assortment of seasonal fruits, and an array of sweet pastries and breads.
The star of the breakfast, however, was the bustling omelet station, where a cheerful chef custom-prepared omelets to order. While I don’t typically opt for omelets when dining out, I found myself thoroughly enjoying a delicious spinach, mushroom, onion, and Swiss cheese omelet for two mornings straight – a testament to its freshness and quality. As an added bonus, Embassy Suites hosts a delightful happy hour reception in the early evening for its guests, offering complimentary snacks – including the most addictive homemade potato chips, a personal weakness of mine – and a selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. A refreshing sangria paired with a plate of cheese, fresh veggies, and those irresistible potato chips with dip was precisely what this weary mama needed after a full day of exploring Savannah on foot. The value provided by staying here, with both a substantial breakfast and an evening reception included, was truly exceptional for a family vacation. The breakfast alone saved us the significant hassle and expense of finding a suitable dining spot for five hungry travelers each morning, making our trip both more enjoyable and budget-friendly.

What We Did: Embracing Savannah’s Charm on Foot
Our primary mode of exploration in Savannah was, quite simply, walking. And we walked a lot. The experience was nothing short of wonderful. The weather throughout our trip was absolutely perfect for pedestrian exploration – warm enough to be comfortable, but without the oppressive heat that can sometimes characterize Southern springs. This ideal climate allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the city’s ambiance without feeling rushed or overheated. We had anticipated that Savannah would be an excellent family destination precisely because of its walkable nature, and our expectations were truly exceeded. Those of you who use fitness trackers will appreciate this: we proudly hit an impressive 18,000 steps by 5 PM one day, a testament to how much ground we covered and how easily one can navigate this beautiful city on foot!
