Embracing the Weekend: Navigating Student Life, Organized Living, and Delicious Skillet Meals

IMG_5889 - Reflecting on a busy week and looking forward to the weekend

Happy Friday, everyone! This week has certainly been a whirlwind, a true “doozy” as they say. The vibes haven’t been entirely optimal, but I’m actively working on shifting that energy around to fully embrace the upcoming weekend. Yesterday marked a significant milestone for me: my very first lab practical exam. For those unfamiliar, it’s essentially a hands-on assessment based on all the practical work and detailed slides we’ve covered in the lab sessions. Consequently, my entire week has been consumed by intense study mode, layered on top of all the usual demands of daily life. It’s a constant juggle, and I’m really putting effort into mastering this intricate dance of life, work, and school balance.

It might sound surprising, but I’m currently enrolled in only one class this semester, and honestly, I can barely fathom taking on more at this point. That single class, Anatomy & Physiology, has been one of the most profoundly eye-opening and intensely interesting courses I’ve ever undertaken. It’s incredibly challenging, requiring an immense amount of memorization, but the sheer complexity and efficiency of our bodies are truly astounding. Every lesson reveals another layer of miraculous biological processes happening within us, ceaselessly and without our conscious command. Can I just express how much I genuinely love being a student again? The pursuit of knowledge, the discovery of new insights – it’s an incredibly rewarding journey, even amidst the demanding schedule.

My Current Loves: Small Joys & Smart Solutions

Beyond the fascinating world of human biology, there are a few other things currently bringing a spark of joy and efficiency to my life. These are the little discoveries and habits that help smooth out the edges of a busy week and contribute to a more balanced existence.

Nourishment & Savory Delights

First on my list is Panera Bread’s clean pairing menu. It offers such a delightful array of choices, making it easy to grab something wholesome and satisfying on the go. My absolute favorite soup from their current selection is the Garden Vegetable with Pesto. The fresh, vibrant flavors are simply irresistible, and it’s become a new mission of mine to recreate it in my own kitchen. What’s your go-to Panera order? Finding easy, healthy options when life gets hectic is crucial, and Panera consistently delivers on that front, providing nourishing meals that don’t compromise on taste.

The Quest for Organization: A Work in Progress

The concept of being organized truly makes me happy. The reality, however, is that I’m currently far from my ideal state of organizational bliss. Yet, it’s a constant work in progress, and I’m taking tangible steps towards it. One tool that has significantly helped our family stay on top of things is this fantastic big calendar from Paper Source. It’s truly massive, hanging prominently on our kitchen wall, and provides ample writing space for everyone’s activities, appointments, and deadlines. Having a central, highly visible place for all our family’s commitments has been a game-changer, ensuring everyone is aware of what’s happening and helping us coordinate our busy schedules more effectively. It’s a simple solution, but its impact on reducing scheduling conflicts and general family chaos has been profound.

The Game-Changer: Embracing Weekly Meal Planning

Speaking of organization and reducing chaos, let’s talk about meal planning. Since the start of the year, I’ve been on an incredible roll with my weekly meal planning, and the positive impact on our home life has been undeniable. This past week, however, I regrettably floundered a bit and simply never got around to creating a plan. The consequences were immediate and frustrating: 1) I found myself making far too many unplanned trips to the grocery store, often for single ingredients, and 2) even after all those extra errands, I still struggled to pull a coherent dinner together each night. It was a stark reminder of why meal planning is so vital. Let’s repeat this mantra together: Meal Planning Saves Money & Time. It’s a fundamental truth, and once you experience the tangible benefits, you truly appreciate the positive ripple effect it creates in managing your household and your budget.

Effective meal planning isn’t just about saving cash or hours; it also fosters healthier eating habits by encouraging thoughtful food choices and reducing reliance on last-minute, often less healthy, takeout options. It minimizes food waste by ensuring you buy only what you need and use what you have. For my planning, I currently use this dedicated meal planner, which helps me structure our week’s meals efficiently. I’ve also seen a friend use this “what to eat” notepad, and it looks incredibly cool and practical for quick, on-the-go planning. Whether it’s a detailed journal or a simple tear-off pad, finding a system that works for you is key to harnessing the power of meal planning.

Uncovering Self: What’s Your Personality Type?

Here’s a fun little pop quiz for you: What’s Your Personality Type? I find these tests fascinating for the self-awareness they can bring. I’ve consistently tested as an ESFJ (Extraversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judging), though I’ve also had ESFP (Extraversion, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving) come up in previous assessments. Understanding these traits can offer interesting insights into how you interact with the world, make decisions, and relate to others. It’s a wonderful way to reflect on your strengths and areas for growth, and sometimes, it just confirms what you already instinctively knew about yourself!

Nurturing Young Minds: Connecting Kids with Classics

A few weeks ago, I came across this insightful post about engaging children with classic literature, and I absolutely adored it. Coincidentally, my son’s reading teacher had suggested a very similar approach earlier in the school year. The idea is simple but powerful: introduce children to the timeless stories that have captivated generations, allowing them to experience rich narratives and complex characters that often aren’t found in contemporary beginner books. Imagine my delight when I recently stumbled upon a treasure trove of these classic books for just $1 each at Michaels! It felt like hitting the jackpot for nurturing young literary minds.

There’s something profoundly special about witnessing your child immerse themselves in a classic tale. My 3rd-grade daughter, for instance, just started reading *Little Women* and is completely captivated by the world of the March sisters. It’s more than just reading; it’s an experience that fosters empathy, broadens horizons, and cultivates a lifelong love for storytelling. These foundational stories teach valuable lessons, spark imagination, and often become cherished memories that children carry with them for years. Providing access to these literary gems, especially at such an affordable price, is a gift I’m thrilled to share.
